Geyi for researchers
For anyone who reads foreign-language literature daily, the pain is not any single paper — it is the loop: export the PDF, translate it elsewhere, drag the result back, then work out how to reattach it. Three papers a day means running that three times.
Geyi folds the loop into the library itself. The Zotero plugin submits a translation from a right-click, and the result attaches to the same item as a properly named child rather than landing in your downloads folder.
Done inside Zotero
- Right-click an item or its PDF attachment, choose translate, confirm the target language and pipeline, and submit.
- When the cloud job finishes, the translation attaches back to the original item with figures, formulas and references in place.
- Your personal glossary applies automatically to plugin jobs — no picking a list again inside the plugin.
- Long documents queue in the cloud with progress in the item sidebar, and closing and reopening Zotero does not lose the job.

Older material and unusual layouts
Archives, photocopies and vertically set journals keep their text inside the image, where ordinary translation tools cannot reach it. Geyi recognises before translating, converts vertical text to horizontal, and corrects the reading order of spreads and multi-column pages.
When you need the original rather than a translation, document extraction costs 4 credits a page and returns horizontal, editable Word, PDF, TXT or Markdown.
One account, one balance
The plugin and the web app share an account and a credit balance, so it is drawn from the same pool either way. Plugin jobs appear in the web history, and glossaries and preferences are managed on the web with immediate effect.
Frequently asked questions
Is the original PDF modified?
No. The translation is a newly generated PDF attached to the same item as a child; the original attachment is untouched.
What if I translate the same paper twice?
The plugin asks whether to overwrite, save as a new version, or cancel, and different outputs never overwrite each other.
Does the plugin need separate credits?
No — it shares one account and balance with the web app.
Which Zotero versions are supported?
Zotero 7 through 9 on Windows, macOS and Linux. Zotero 6 and earlier use a different add-on mechanism and aren't supported.
Are unpublished manuscripts safe?
The privacy policy sets out what is collected, how long it is kept and who can reach it; access and deletion requests go to support@geyi.net and are answered within 30 days.
Can academic accuracy be guaranteed?
High precision reduces drift substantially through its verification pass, but check key conclusions against the original.
