The Geyi Zotero plugin
Reading foreign-language literature in Zotero used to mean exporting a PDF, translating it elsewhere and dragging the result back. The plugin removes that loop: right-click an item, translate it, and the translated PDF is attached to the same entry.
Layout is preserved, so figures, tables and page references still line up with the citations in your notes.
What the plugin does
- Layout follows the original: figures, formulas, footnotes and references stay in place, and an AI-reflow pipeline is available when the whole document should be rebuilt in the target language.
- The translation files itself: output is named “<original>_Translated by Geyi.pdf” and attached to the same item as a child, rather than landing in your downloads folder.
- Your glossary applies automatically: the personal terms kept in your account are applied to plugin jobs, and edits take effect on the next paper.
- Browser authorisation, no password in the plugin: one click opens your system browser to confirm, and the credential stays in local Zotero preferences.
- Long documents run unattended: they queue in the cloud with progress in the item sidebar, and closing and reopening Zotero does not lose the job.
- One plugin across three platforms: Zotero on Windows, macOS and Linux, with the interface following Zotero's own language.
The same account as the web app
The plugin is not a separate product. Credits come from one shared balance, so plugin jobs and web jobs bill together and nothing needs topping up separately. Jobs submitted from the plugin appear in the web history, and glossaries and preferences are managed on the web — edits take effect immediately, with no reinstall and no signing in again.

Three steps to get going
- Install the plugin Download the .xpi above, then in Zotero open Tools → Add-ons, click the gear icon in the top right, choose “Install Plugin From File…” and select it.
- Sign in to Geyi Restart Zotero and open Settings → Geyi Translator, then click sign in. Confirm once in your browser and you're linked — no password is ever typed into the plugin.
- Right-click to translate Right-click a bibliographic item or its PDF attachment, pick “Translate with Geyi”, confirm the target language and pipeline, and submit. The result files itself back when it's done.

Which Zotero versions are supported?

Does translating spend credits?
Yes, on exactly the same terms as the web app — by page count and the precision you choose. Plugin and web share one balance, so it's drawn from the same pool either way.
Is my original PDF modified?
No. The translation is a newly generated PDF attached to the same item as a child; the original attachment is untouched, so you can always read them side by side.
What if I translate the same paper twice?
The plugin asks first whether to overwrite, save as a new version, or cancel. Traditional Chinese and bilingual outputs are distinguished by a qualifier in the filename, so different outputs never overwrite each other.
How does the plugin update?
Automatically. Manual installs and store installs use the same update channel, and Zotero prompts you when a new version is out.
